Antibacterial Effects of Synthetic Detergents against Gram-Negative Bacilli

Abstract
The author carried out a study to determine minimal inhibition concentration (MIC) of synthetic detergents against gram-negative bacilli and to compare antibacterial effects of Japanese synthetic detergents with those of Korean synthetic detergents.
The results obtained were as follows:
1. For antibacterial effects against Salmonella typhi, MICs of Japanese synthetic detergents were from 20,000 to 40, 000 mcg/ml and MICs of Korean synthetic detergents were from 5, 000 to 40, 000 mcg/ml except Malgumi(R).
2. For antibacterial effects against Salmonella paratyphi A, MICs of Spark(R) and Top(R) among Japanese synthetic detergents were 40, 000 mcg/ml and others did not appear under concentration of 40, 000 mcg/mi. MICs of Pong Pong(R), Trio(R), and MalgumicR> among Korean synthetic detergents did not appear under concentration of 40,000 mcg/ml and MICs of Haitai(R), WonderfulCR>, and Clean-up(R) were from 10, 000 to 20, 000 mcg/mL
3. For antibacterial effects against Proteus vulgaris, MICs of Japanese and Korean synthetic detergents were equal (5, 000-10, 000 mcg/ml).
4. For antibacterial effects against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, MICs of Japanese synthetic detergents except Spark(R) did not appear under concentration of 40, 000 mcg/ml but MICs of Korean synthetic detergents were from 2, 500 to 20, 000 mcg/ml.
5. For antibacterial effects against Vibrio parahaemolyticus, MICs of Top(R) and Mamaremon(R) among Japanese synthetic detergents did not appear under concentration of 40, 000 mcg/ml and others were from 20, 000 to 40, 000 mcg/ml. MICs of Pong PongCR>, Trio(R) and Malgumi(R) among Korean synthetic detergents did not appear under concentration of 40,000 mcg/ml and others were 40,000 mcg/ml.
6. There were no differences between antibacterial effects of Japanese synthetic detergents and those of Korean synthetic detergents except Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
